If you have visited my Open Studio at Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk you would have had the opportunity to view some of the work in my permanent collection, ‘20,000 Used Labels’.
Mute Swan is one of the largest at 1.3 metres. The used labels in this collection were gathered locally from 1000s of rag garments between 2001-2014. Many of these labels are now considered to be vintage or are no longer available on the high street. The image is assembled in a painterly fashion using clothing labels and pins to create movement and shadow. I took the initial photograph and sketch at Swan Lake, Straws Bridge Nature Reserve, Ilkeston in 2001.
The exciting news is that Mute Swan will be on view at my local Harvest Fayre this Saturday 12th October 2024. Afterwards she will be transported to Arnold to be taken out of her frame then onto Newark to be scanned for Giclee Prints.
