1 Ton of Garments
In the summer of 2019 I installed a sculpture at St Margaret’s Church, Cley-next-the-Sea, Norfolk comprising of 3000 used garments sourced from a collection of 1 ton. Part of the process as I sorted and folded was to carefully unpick each label from its garment, but not all clothing labels are removable and not all garments still have their original labels. The used labels that I am presenting here are a typical selection found within 1 ton of rags.
Beautiful printed and woven labels are miniature works of art in their own right, I imagine these small creations as shop windows into a world where we can see, touch and try before we buy.
Original available 88cm high x 72cm wide box framed in white behind glass.
