Queen Bee

At 80 x 80cm this Queen Bee is given a sense of nobility; the gold damask canvas and purple clothing adding to her majesty.

I always return to the formal elements when describing my artwork and two elements strike me about this piece; movement in the wings generated from the repeat pattern labels and the empty space between the rows allowing the gold canvas to occupy the surface.
